The Interior

When the automotive press reviewed the
914 they describe it's interior as Spartan
but Porsche felt it was necessary to trim
even more weight and to add race equipment,
as a result the GT received many interior
enhancements.

The banal carpeting set was exchanged for a felt like material on the rear firewall, inner rocker panels and on some cars it replaced dash board basket weave fabric. The driver and passenger floors were finished with black ribbed rubber floor mats. All nonessential fitment like radio, speaker grills, glove box door and bottom dash pad were removed for the purpose of weight savings. Some of the cars the factory prepared were equipped with a "hand brake lever for sports employment" mounted in between the seats. Supplemental switches are found on the dash to operate the auxiliary lights and some cars were equipt with a manual headlight hoisting cable to eliminate the headlight lift motors in the front trunk.

The gauge cluster featured a 911 S combination display with oil temperature and pressure gauges on the left, a 10,000 rpm tachometer in the center and the standard 914-6 speedometer on the right. Replacement of the stock 914-6 combination gauge necessitated installation of a fuel gauge in the dash board to the right of the vent controls. A small diameter steering wheel with leather covering was installed to replace the large diameter stock wheel.

The seats are constructed of fiberglass, cloaked with vinyl backs, corduroy inserts and enlarged lateral supports. Repa four point racing harnesses are installed using the standard seatbelt mounts on either side of the seat with supplemental rear firewall mounts for the shoulder straps.

The door interior is covered with a thin cardboard panel clad in black vinyl, a leather strap is connected for opening the door and a plastic handle off of a Fiat 600 was enlisted for the door pull.
