Brake System

The one aspect of the GT not neglected was the brake system. The 914's superior handling characteristics coupled with upgraded brakes make this car hard to beat in the turns.

The standard 914-6 steel front calipers were replaced by the lightweight aluminum calipers found on the 911 S. In addition to reducing unsprung weight the 911 S caliper provided better heat transfer to decrease brake fade.

Some cars were equipted with 908 front calipers, the main advantage of this caliper over the 911 S unit is the increased pad thickness. The only tool needed to change pads in the 908 caliper where plyers to remove the hot pads.

Both the 911 S and 908 type front brake calipers were used with the standard 911/914-6 vented rotor.

On the rear of a GT the stock 914-6 caliper was split in half and spacers were inserted enabling the car to utilize a vented rotor in the rear. This also allowed for the retention of the emergency brake which was important to drivers in rally racing.
